Healthy eating
We encourage children to drink plenty of water during the day because of its beneficial effects on physical well being and the ability to learn. Please supply your child with a filled bottle of water to bring to school every day. These can be refilled during the day from cooled water dispensers.
The School Council and the recent Parents’ Forum have discussed what would be a healthy option for a snack at break time in the mornings. If children have had an early breakfast then some form of snack is a good idea. After discussions on this it has been decided to allow fruit, cheese or a cereal type bar (non-chocolate coating) for breaktime snacks. We encourage children to stay to enjoy our cooked school meals provided by our dedicated catering staff who do an excellent job in providing healthy, balanced meals. Vegetarian meals are also catered for. We are fortunate in having a catering team who play a full part in the life of the school, and care a great deal about our children.
Children may, of course, bring sandwiches if they wish. Lunch boxes should be placed in the relevant cloakroom on entering the school. Children eat their sandwich lunches either in the hall, the classrooms or, when the weather is suitable, outside seated at the tables provided in the quiet areas.
Drinking water is provided. Good table manners are expected.
Money/cheques, for dinner (£1.90 a day) or other purposes, should always be sent to school in a sealed envelope, individually for each child, and clearly marked with:
- the name of the child
- class
- amount enclosed
- for what purpose
This should be given to the class teacher at the beginning of the school day. Cheques for school meals should be made payable to Cambridgeshire County Council.
Families receiving Income Support are entitled to apply for free school meals. Details are available from our secretary.
