    Uniform
We encourage children to dress smartly and to take a pride in their appearance.
Children are expected to wear clean, tidy and serviceable clothes.
We therefore ask that all our children dress in the school colours stipulated.
These are: grey or black trousers or skirt/culottes, white or gold shirts or blouses, bottle green jumpers/sweatshirts or cardigans, black shoes.

    Our uniform is:
    Boys
Gold or white shirt or polo shirt
Bottle green jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
Grey/Black trousers Grey or black skirt or trousers/culottes
    Black sensible shoes (not trainers)*

    Girls
Gold or white blouse or polo shirt (In summer green or yellow checked dress may be worn)
Bottle green jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
Black low heeled sensible shoes (not trainers)*

*Footwear is expected to be sensible, with low heels. Strong sensible shoes are essential for the good development of children’s feet, which is why we discourage the wearing of trainers. Trainers can also detract from the smart appearance we are trying to encourage for our school. The local community does notice a smart school! We hope that parents will work with us to maintain this essential image, because it outwardly expresses our quest for high standards.
The school playground is sometimes very cold, so warm outdoor clothing and gloves may be necessary.
William de Yaxley sweatshirts, and polo shirts are available (in children’s or adult sizes).
Please contact Janet Rossin, in the school office, to place an order.
Book bags are also sold at a price of £3.00

    P.E. Kit
For Physical Education all children require green shorts and a plain yellow, or white, T-shirt and plimsolls (indoors) and trainers (outdoors). Bare feet are advised by the County for indoor P.E. Plimsolls may, however, be worn by any child who finds that barefoot work causes a verruca to be painful. Tracksuits may be worn outside in colder weather.
P.E. kit should be kept in a bag with the child’s name marked on it clearly.

All clothing must be clearly marked with your child’s name (Hours are spent trying to trace lost items of clothing!).

    Jewellery
There are very sensible reasons why jewellery shouldn’t be worn by children in school. It is, in fact, a stipulation for every school in the country because of the injuries which children have received at school from items of jewellery, such as ear lobes being ripped and facial injuries due to rings being accidentally knocked across people’s faces. We need parents’ cooperation here to see and understand these reasons and to ensure that at school no rings are worn, or necklaces, and that only one sleeper or stud is to be worn in each ear. These sleepers or studs must be removed for P.E. because of the danger to self and others. We are in line with all other schools in the area with this, including the secondary schools.
It would seem sensible to us that if children are to have their ears pierced then they do so at the beginning of the summer holidays in order that the six week healing process can take place, and P.E. lessons are not missed because they cannot remove them during this period.

    Hair
We would also ask for your cooperation in ensuring that children do not come to school with painted nails or coloured/streaked hair. We do give children opportunities for going ‘wild’ in this area by occasionally having fund raising Wacky Hair Days!

    Personal Property
When precious possessions go missing it causes upset all round. We try to avoid this by encouraging children not to bring in items of personal or material value. If occasionally they wish to show a particular item in class, or in assembly, then they should hand it to a member of staff for safe keeping.

    Sun Safety
We stress the importance of children wearing sun hats during the hotter months of the year to protect themselves from the damaging effects of the sun. We also feel they should bring suncream to apply themselves, or have it applied before they leave home.
